Extent of obesity not determining factor for choosing weight loss operation
By Cody Chan, | Health | 1 Comment
(The Almagest) According to a new study published in Journal of the American College of Surgeons found out why the obese patients choose only one type of weight loss strategy over others. The research found out that the basic factors influencing the decision are whether patients have type 2 diabetes and also how much weight they want to lose. The research further found out that the measure of obesity does not play any major role in the decision making process. The research further stated that the gastric bypass provides a greater and more sustainable weight loss with time than any other kind of weight loss procedures.
The lead investigator Christine C. Wee, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, Boston explains, “BMI alone was not an important determinant, suggesting that patients and their surgeons considered the whole patient and what was important to him or her. This finding was reassuring.”
