Fat tummy I’ve been trying to lose weight for a long time. Could you please give me a diet to lose weight in 7 days?

Losing weight is not a complex affair. All you need to do is eat healthy and exercise. But it’s impossible to lose a lot of weight within 7 days. Just like you didn’t put on all the extra weight in an instant, you cannot lose it all in a week. We’re not saying you won’t lose weight in a week, but it’s unrealistic to expect huge results.

Trying a crash/fad diet could help you lose 3-4 kg but that weight would simply return when you go back to your normal eating habits. Here are some tips by expert dietician Shilpa Mittal to lose weight and keep it off, forever!

Breakfast: Start your day with milk and cornflakes, or milk and poha/upma. If are a North Indian and must have parathas, avoid alu parathas and make it a mixed veg one with less oil/ghee/butter. If you’re from the South, you can have idlis, dosa, uttappa but avoid medu wada since that is fried. You can even opt for egg omelette or sandwiches. (Read: Healthy Indian breakfast ideas)

Lunch: This can consist of a proper meal like rotis/bhakri with vegetables, salads and a source of protein from dal/curd/sprouts/non-veg dishes like eggs, fish, chicken plus a small helping of rice. Avoid pickles and papads.

Snack: This can be mixed dry fruits, seasonal fruits or any fruit you like or a handful of roasted channa or kurmuras.

Dinner: Preferably opt for an early dinner and it can be just like lunch or it can be a single wholesome meal like khichdi , pulav, biryani.

Remember, that a weight loss diet isn’t about eating less but eating the right thing at the right time in the right quantity. Make sure there aren’t huge gaps between two meals since this can reduce your metabolic rate and your ability to burn fat. Other things to keep in mind is that you should stay hydrated by drinking copious amounts of water and avoid junk foods – even innocuous ones like biscuits or bakery products which can add to the pounds.
