Doing only cardio or aerobic workouts for weight loss is a big mistake. Here is why weight training is important for weight loss.
Weight training is not only for bodybuilders or to build muscle mass, but a great way to lose weight. Weight training for weight loss is associated with the term ‘muscle burns fat’. This implies that weight training induces weight loss, when stored fat is used as energy to exercise the muscles. Unlike cardio or aerobic workouts, weight training increases metabolism which induces fat loss even after your workout. Plus after weight training your body also needs oxygen at a higher rate.
Weight training for weight loss promises lean muscles and fat loss in a short period of time. Cardio helps you lose weight, but weight training makes you lose body fat and replace it with muscle, hence changing your body composition.
For women, weight training is important for boosting bone health there by reducing the risk of osteoporosis. While lifting a moderate amount of weight, there is a constant amount of pressure being exerted on your muscles, which in turn works your skeletal structure as well. This constant pressure causes the muscles to tear and grow eventually, while the bones supporting those muscles get stronger in the long run as well.

She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. As an practice nurse, she has worked in Family Practice and Pain Management specialties. Sonja has experience in caring for patients across a lifespan, and loves to teach prevention and healthy living.
As a Registered Nurse she has experience in Pediatrics, Cardiology, Medical Surgical, and Family Practice. Her education began with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Nursing in 2002 from Central Texas College. She completed her Bachelors in the Science of Nursing in 2008, and her Masters in the Science if Nursing was obtained in 2011. Sonja is a member of the North Texas Nurse Practitioners Association, and is very passionate about advanced practice nursing.
